Once Upon a Shopping Trip
One day about three years ago
I took a trip to Ross
Spotted there a couple of chairs
I found to be quite boss
Not wanting to be hasty,
I waited a day or two
When I returned to buy them
I managed to find you
I suppose, if truth be told,
It was you who discovered me
Gazing at my intended purchase
As you gazed at your sweet "B"
As you loaded those chairs into my car
I gazed at you as well
Then went promptly to confession
For fear I’d go straight to hell
We shared a lunch at Gator’s Dockside,
But then ‘twas not to be our time
That lunch, like an appetizer,
Arrived before my prime
You were like my Haley’s Comet -
Beautiful, but far away
But when indeed my prime arrived
You appeared for a longer stay
You spoke indeed straight to my heart
In the stillness of a silent retreat
As I sat among the Buddhists
I tried my best to be discreet
It was challenging, I must tell you
To stay quiet in that meditation
When “I love him with my Big Sky Heart”
Repeated without cessation
Yes, in that quiet I did hear
The desires of my heart
And then I found a hickory nut
Symbolic of our start
I don’t know where this “US” will go
And it’s really no concern
For I’m enjoying our “US” right here & now
And all the things that we can learn
There’s much that I admire in you
Including your Adonis-like appearance
And your determination with that helicopter
Reflects formidable perseverance
Your Sunday breakfast regimen
Is really quite endearing
Your religious ride upon your “scoot”
A break from widget-engineering
You’re magnificent and gorgeous
And humble all the while
And have I told you lately
How much I love your playful smile?
I know you know that hair of yours
Leaves me weak within my knees
But without your heart it would be moot
So may I have it, please?
Of course, I’m counting on your answer
To be a resounding “yes”
And in that vain I’m wearing
Something special beneath my dress
Nothing less than something tasteful
An intended treat just for your eyes
Won’t you snuggle all night long
Next to my Victoria’s Secret surprise?
Oh, my dearest darling Drew
Who would have ever guessed?
The chairs on my front porch
Would lead me to the best?
